FRANKLIN SQUARE PLAYGROUND
The Franklin Square playground project is founded on two core principles: celebrating the site's cultural and historical significance while embracing nature-based play. The design showcases Benjamin Franklin's achievements and interests through interactive elements—stone musical instruments reflecting his love of music, optical features honoring his invention of bifocal glasses, and a landscape palette inspired by his scientific curiosity.
Recognizing that interaction with natural elements is crucial for children's development, the playground incorporates water, rocks, varied topography, and diverse vegetation alongside traditional features like swings, slides, climbing nets, and zip lines to create a comprehensive play experience that nurtures creativity, curiosity, and social skills.
The designed space includes both community gathering areas, such as a small amphitheater for group activities, and quieter retreats where children can find solitude within the urban environment, ensuring the playground serves diverse needs while maintaining its educational and developmental focus.
